My Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice!

Because October isn’t complete without pumpkin patch pictures! I may not be the brains behind the operation but I gotta say that I’m glad we went! Angelina talked about pumpkins the entire way there and was in heaven while running through the patch. It’s the simplicity that children love and that really makes you realize how grateful we should be. They may be small but these little people are bundles of knowledge and lessons.

Excuse me, what’s your name?

It hasn’t felt like it but it’s been seven months since I’ve blogged. Thanks to Facebooks friendly reminders I realized how many great moments I caught and how many I missed due to my slacking. Not going to lie, it kinda sorta really broke my heart. But better late then never, so here I am again.

If you don’t remember me, I’m Parita from PARITATIME. The extremely fabulous, fun, loving wife and momma that has a killer sense of humour! Can you say TOOT TOOT?!?! I love tooting my own horn! Hey if you don’t why would anyone else?!?

So what have we missed?!?! Lots!!!! I’m thinking the next couple of posts will be used to get us up to date! Angelina is now 20 months and 27 days old. My baby is so not a baby anymore! She talks like crazy all day errrr day! She has her own personality, she’s hilarious (with one joke in particular… Stay tuned for that!) Everyday she wakes up with a huge smile on her face asking for some sort of food. Usually debra (special indian roti with fenugreek), or cookies, or pancakes, or ice cream (banana ice cream or revellos), or pizza, or fresh juice (particularly beet juice, not so much mean green juice), or simply just ketchup. Sounds like any mommas dream come true because you assume that she must be a great eater if she’s waking up requesting food, but that’s a negative. We still have good days and bad days. Story of my life!

But one amazing accomplishment that I’m so excited to share is when Angie learnt how to say her full name this summer. Well a lot of the time it sounds like A-lina or A-lila but it’s just so darn cute! Originally we weren’t too sure when she would be able to say her whole name (after all it is a fairly long one) but she was saying Angie for a while… but then one random summer afternoon in Hawaii while playing with her Dadda it just happened! The video below was literally minutes after!!!

Nanaimowies Recipe 

Before I get started I must apologize in advance to you. This new recipe has the tendency to make you feel amazingly good. Not only will it tickle your taste buds but I swear you might start hearing the Happy song in your head as you take your first bite. And with all the cacao in these perfect delicious bites it makes these bad boys an aphrodisiac! If your feeling like your having a blah day, have one of these (you won’t be able to stop at one but you can try) and you will notice the magic take place. Oh and get this, it take 10 minutes to make!

But before we get to that, let’s talk about life. I’m always looking for new and improved ways to make my life or me better. It isn’t a secret how much a love big brows. It’s been my thing for years, had I known what I know now I would’ve never gotten plucker crazy on boring days 10-15 years ago. It’s never been the same since. You all know what I’m talking about. I should’ve embraced the big brows and did very minimal clean up just like the supermodels do! But Seventeen Magazine never gave you those eyebrow tips! Now I’m left with these uneven, unsymmetrical, imperfect brows.

For the last month, I’ve been letting these puppies grow and within the last week there as been some major not so attractive growth. Sometimes I feel like my brows are growing on my eye lids (totally exaggerating) but it’s out of control. This is usually where I throw in the towel, get them threaded/waxed and go back to boring imperfect brows Parita. Not this time. I’m giving it two and a half more weeks. I am convinced that I can get at least one step closer to fixing these guys and getting that much closer to my eyebrow dreams. I’d like to say that I think I’m doing a extremely fab job hiding it though. With my trusty angled brush and dark shadow I’d like to think that you can barely tell, it’s a miracle what makeup can do! But if you do happen to catch an edition of Parita’s Eyebrows Gone Wild, don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Now that I got that off my chest! Here is the scoop on these Nanaimowies. The first bite I took almost immediately confused me. Was I enjoying a brownie or a Nanaimo bar?!?! It really is the best of both worlds. Every bite melts in your mouth. Ummm um um! Best part, I can confidently say that they are good for you! Almonds, cacao powder, coconut oil, medjool dates…. Let’s stop there for a second. I know what you’re thinking, dates?!? Now my husband hates dates, he would never touch them let alone eat them but he eats these Nanaimowies likes its his full time job! You can’t taste them at all and they are loaded with good stuff! Trust me! Have I steered you wrong yet?!?

Lastly cacao powder and cocoa powder are NOT the same. Do not substitute the two. Cacao is a superfood for a reason! Cocoa powder is processed and stripped of its nutrients. Give your body the best, it deserves it!

Now for the big reveal!

Nanaimowies Recipe

Ingredients for bottom layer:
8 medjool dates (pit removed)
2 tbsp shredded coconut
2 tbsp cacao powder
3 tsp coconut oil
1/2 cup almonds
A pinch of Celtic salt

Blend all ingredients in a food processor to a crumbly texture. In a parchment paper lined square/rectangle dish firmly press mixture down and place in fridge.

Ingredients for top layer:

2 tbsp cacao powder
2 tbsp dark chocolate chips (70% or higher is the best)
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 tbsp maple syrup

Melt and mix all four ingredients over a low heat on the stove. Once fully melted, pour on top of nut mixture and return to fridge to set.

NOTE: the longer you let it sit the easier it is to cut! For my second batch I waited 3.5-4 hours and it was perfect!

Baked Cajun Shoestring Sweet Potatoe Fries

What a night I’ve had. Angelina and I were up very very early today. 3:15am to be exact! And she didn’t want to go back to bed until 6:45am where she then woke up a little over an hour later. Needless to say she is passed out for now. But obviously now I’m wide awake so I’m lying in bed writing to you.

Big news in my world is I am finally back to black again and I am so happy! Every time I venture out and return back I always wonder what the heck was I thinking! There’s nothing like shiny black hair. I swear once I was done, I looked like I got a hair treatment, cut, style… The works! But really I just did it in my washroom with the door closed. Really truly enjoying silence. Trust me, that was the perfect spa time for me! Total ultimate relaxation.

Now let’s get to the food!!!! Yesterday a girlfriend came to visit and I got to try this recipe for a third time and it was a hit again! She loved it. So obviously I have to share! If I haven’t convinced you already to buy a Spiralizer, you will after today.

You can do anything with these fries. You can eat a bowl just like that and not feel guilty because it’s actually good for you. You can throw it on a salad (this is my new thing, it adds an amazing crunch and flavor) or the hubby likes to add it on top of a chicken breast at dinner or in a burger or sandwich. Doesn’t that all sound delish?!?! The possibilities are endless!!! Hope you love it as much as we do!

Baked Cajun Shoestring Sweet Potatoe Fries

1 large sweet potatoe
2 tbsp olive oil
Celtic sea salt to taste
Cajun seasoning to taste OR Piri Piri Seasoning

1) Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2) Spiralize the sweet potatoe. The key to make this easy, make sure you have suctioned all four legs to the counter before starting. You can keep the skin on or off. I took mine off.
3) In a bowl mix together your spiralized sweet potato, olive oil, Celtic sea salt and whatever seasoning your heart desires. I have tried both Cajun and Piri Piri and absolutely LOVE both!
4) Spread out on a baking sheet and cook in the oven for 25 mins. Make sure you do not overlap any pieces, as it will not cook properly.

Be sure to WATCH YOUR OVEN during baking, because these puppies can burn. Timing can vary between ovens. Now every time I have made this, there are some pieces that burn. But don’t get thrown off, that is okay. Mine has never tasted burnt! It just adds some extra crunch.

Lastly, when you do take it out of the oven it may not be completely crispy all the way but once you leave it out to cool it should crisp up more!

A family that smoothies together, groovies together! 

For the last week and a bit Angelina has decided that she wants to have smoothies to start off our day. Miss Thing is actually pretty particular, if it isn’t green she doesn’t usually drink it. No complaining here for me! This is a Moms dream come true! 

I’ve wrote about this before, but I like to say it over and over again. The more you teach your children about fruits and vegetables at an early age, the more likely they are to incorporate them and eat them on a daily basis as they get older.
Our morning routine is the same every day! She stands by my feet like clock work while I prep the fruits and veggies for our smoothie, knowing her turn is up next. Once everything is prepped and knives are put away, she gets to do the rest. Putting everything in the Vitamix, while doing a taste lick or bite on almost everything she puts in. She needs to ensure quality people!!!
We watch it blend together, we pour it together, we clean up our mess together and then the best part… We cuddle up on the sofa and enjoy our 1 litre green smoothie as we watch Sesame Street and dance, sing, clap and snap our fingers! How fun does that sound?!?!
We’re a team, as her body is getting stronger and leaner, my body is finally going back to the way I best remember it!

Raw Rainbow Pad Thai

I’m happy to say that I’m still going strong on my health kick. I’ve had a cheat day here and there, which is usually what really screws me over because thats when I decided to throw in the towel but this time I actually feel guilty when I cheat. Or if I do cheat, I follow it up with at least 2-3 glasses of herbal decaf tea. In my head, that evens it out… Don’t ask!

I have lately been using myself as a guinea pig and testing out a lot of new recipes, superfood powders, homemade body scrubs, homemade face scrubs that I can hopefully share with you soon. Right now I’m testing the powders, face and body scrubs to see if it actually works before sharing it. (Spoiler alert! The body scrub I’m using right now apparently helps reduce the look of stretch marks and cellulite… Cross your fingers!!!) Same goes with the recipes, I like to try them a couple of times to make sure I got it down before sharing it.

This recipe I have eaten many many times! In the last week alone I’ve ate this Raw Rainbow Pad Thai dish at least 5 times. It is so yummy, tasty, crunchy and spicy! What else do you need in life, really?!?!

Now if you don’t have a spiralizer yet, you need to get it! It will change your eating experience. You will be introduced to a whole new world of zoodles (zuchinni noodles), sweet potato curly fries (recipe coming soon, still tweaking a bit), perfectly spiralled crunchy carrots, honestly the list is endless. It takes your salads and your presentation to a whole new level. Where do you get this life changing zoodle maker from you ask? I got mine from Amazon for $29.99 and it was delivered to my door in 2 days! For anyone who has a Kitchen Stuff Plus near by they carry it there as well!

What I like to do is prep myself a head of time. This way in case I’m about to cheat… When I look in the fridge and see everything ready to go and have no excuses. I do enough veggies for 2-3 days.

Another easy time saving trick, if you have a food processor with the extra attachment for grating and shredding USE IT. You will be done in minutes! I use my food processor to grate my carrots and shred my cabbage. Literally two minutes and WHAMO BAMO its done!

Without further ado, here’s the recipe for the magical Raw Rainbow Pad Thai.

Ingredients: 1 serving
– I cup zoodles (spiralized zuchinni noodles)
– 1/2 cup grated carrots
– 1/2 cup shredded red cabbage
– 1/3 cup edamame (I use frozen deshelled edamame, that I defrost in a bowl of water)
– 1 tsp sesame seeds
– cilantro to garnish

Sauce: 5-6 servings
– 1/2 cup of peanut butter
– juice of two limes
– 2 tbsp of tamari or soya sauce
– 2 tbsp of agave nectar or honey
– 2 tsp of grated fresh ginger
– 1 tsp Siracha sauce (add according to spice preference)
– 2-3 tbsp of water to reach desired texture.

To make the sauce simply throw everything into a bowl and mix away!

In a large salad bowl mix together the zoodles, carrots and red cabbage. Add a tbsp at a time of your sauce to coat your veggies. I find that 1.5-2 tbsp does the trick for me. Top with cilantro, edamame and sprinkle on your sesame seeds.

For all the non vegetarians out there looking for some additional protein, you can add a fried egg with an ooey gooey yolk!

How to Make an Acai Berry Bowl

Well hello there gorgeous!

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook it is no secret how obsessed I am with Acai Berry Bowls. Yes I can admit I fell for the looks originally, I’m a sucker for beauty! But it’s the oomph that keeps me wanting more. What oomph you might ask? Well my oh my, I don’t even know where to start. Here’s a little snippet from http://www.cleaneatingmag.com explaining all the goodness this sexy beast has to offer!

Acai berries (pronounced ah-sai-ee) are the fruits of acai palm trees, which are mostly grown in Brazil’s Amazon rain forest. These small, dark-purple berries pack a nutrient punch with a whole host of antioxidants, amino acids and essential fatty acids. Dubbed by the Brazilians as the “Beauty Berry,” acai berries truly do the body good from the inside out, with health benefits such as increased energy levels, a boosted immune system, improved metabolic function and better hair and skin. Not only is this superfood incredibly good for you, but it’s also delicious (it kind of tastes like dark chocolate!).

So let’s cut to the chase here. Making this is actually really simple. The hardest part is hunting down the frozen Acai Berry purée. I got lucky and ended up finding it at our local health food store.

Acai Berry Bowl

I pack of pure Acai Berry purée
1 frozen banana or 1 cup of frozen berries
1/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk – this is for a thicker texture (which I prefer – add more milk if you prefer it a bit soupier.)

Blend all ingredients together in either a food processor or Vitamix for 5-10 seconds! Voila, your base is done!

Top with anything your heart desires and make it look pretty!

Topping suggestions:
– fresh fruit
– hemp hearts
– chia seeds
– unsweetened shredded coconut
– coconut chips
– homemade granola
– nuts
– nut butter
– whipped coconut cream (recipe coming soon)
– dried berries
– cinnamon

Now here’s a warning, something about these bowls are highly addictive! I am known for eating these for breakfast, lunch or dinner! You’ll see…

Homemade Vanilla Almond Granola

Happy Saturday!!!!

First of all thank you to all the people that have sent messages on how inspired they are from the last couple of posts. Even if I can make a difference in one persons life, I’m on cloud 9. So can you imagine how I feel right now?!?

I love getting Facebook, Instagram and blog messages with questions and comments. I really try my best to get back to you within 24 hours, especially when it comes to these new recipes. I know how excited I was to try them and I don’t want to keep your body waiting for this healthy delicious goodness!

This recipe is one of the first things I tried making and it’s been a hit in my house since. It’s perfect for breakfast, a sweet snack or a crunchy snack! Eat it in your Acai Bowl, make a yogurt parfait, chia pudding or just with milk. I promise you, you will love it! And be prepared for your house to smell MAGICAL! Drool will start falling out of your mouth as you stare through the oven window just waiting for it to finish! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

Granola Recipe

– 3 cups rolled oats
– 1 tsp cinnamon
– 1/2 tsp Celtic sea salt
– 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
– 1 cup almonds
– 3/4 cup pure maple syrup
– 1/4 cup melted coconut oil
– 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Mix together and spread over baking sheet. Bake at 325 for 35 mins, stirring at 20 mins. Remove and let chill.

Losing Weight

Well hello again beautiful!

So this is a follow up to yesterday’s posts on Facebook and Instagram in regards to my weight. There are apparently a lot of us women that are in struggle town when it comes to our weight. Yes, I am super duper close to my pre-pregnancy weight (3.8lbs to be exact) and to be honest I didn’t know if this day would ever come.

A lot of you are asking how I managed to do the impossible. It’s not a big secret but thought I would share to let you in on what I’ve learnt and been doing so far.

I’ll be honest, there is no working out. Angelina is my treadmill and weights. Whatever down time I get, I am definitely not thinking about the gym. It really is food, that’s it.

In the last month or so I have made a big change to my diet, minus while I was in Jamaica! Of course! And in the last little while I have FINALLY noticed me getting out of this gosh darn weight plateau that I was stuck in for awhile. But the scale has finally unfrozen and the numbers are changing in my favour. This is what my last little while has looked like when it comes to eating and I swear it’s this that made a difference!

Morning: Acai Berry Bowl (Acai is very popular in Brazil as it is known to help with weight loss and maintain a healthy weight)/Chia Bowl (refer to the last post!)





Lunch: Delicious layered beautiful salad. With homemade dressing.

Dinner: Another extremely gorgeous salad. With another homemade dressing.


ALL BIG PORTIONS and lots of water! Specifically cucumber infused! My two servings of chia lemon water! And throughout the day a couple of cups of decaf herbal tea.



So basically just eat a lot of fruits and veggies! Not to big of a surprise right?!? But the key for me was beauty. Seeing gorgeous and vibrant bright coloured foods just does something to me. And when I load it with superfoods oh my belly.

The above meals consist of acai berry purée, bananas, almond milk, coconut milk, coconut, berries, hemp hearts, chia seeds, homemade granola, homemade whipped coconut cream, red and green cabbage, carrots, sweet potato, avocado, dragon fruit, white and red quinoa, tahini, lemon, lime, cucumber, spinach, kale, broccoli, cauliflower … You get the point! Lots and lots of fruits and veggies! Now shhhhh here’s the secret… Don’t just throw it all in a bowl and scarf it down. My inspiration has been from Bolt Fresh Bar. I found them on Instagram, it’s worth a follow! Their salad presentation is what got me going and gets me every time. Have a look at their salads!






Something about an organized breakfast bowl and salad. It’s just so delicious looking! Call me crazy but it worked and is still working! Who doesn’t want to eat and appreciate something so beautiful?!?! In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed major changes in my weight and that’s all I’m doing different! Making it pretty, adding bright colours and organizing, I swear!

I will start sharing some recipes that helped me and hopefully will help you too!
