Another Monday is here yet again. Everyone usually dreads the awful Monday, but to me everyday is basically the same at this point in my life. Yes Mat leave has been cray cray to say the least, but now that we are kind of on a routine, I get to start incorporating the things I use to love doing back in my life. Which is AH-MAZING! One of my guilty pleasures is spending some good quality time with my trusty friend Google. Another little secret about me… I am a raw/vegan wannabe. Everything in me wants to be able to live that lifestyle, but oh my lanta it is hard. Especially when you live with a man who loves his meat! Baby steps is what I keep telling my self… Baby steps.

So with this wannabe obsession a lot of my time is spent on raw/vegan blogs and websites. Well well well, I CANNOT WAIT TO SHARE THIS, I found the most heavenly recipe for homemade Almond Milk. Honestly every sip that kisses my lips gives me butterflies and sends a tingly feeling down my spine. It’s orgasmic and trust me that is not an understatement. The first time I made it, it was good – nothing to tell the neighbours about… But it was good. Even without it being bragging material I managed to drink up my first batch in a day and a half. So I tried again, OH MY CLEVELAND it just keeps getting better. It serves all purposes too, a great pick me up in the morning and a fab night cap to end the day. It’s creaminess is so unreal that it’s hard to believe that it is actually good for you. A big thank you goes to Angela and her Oh She Glows Blog for sharing this recipe. The recipe and pictures below are all directly from her blog, if you haven’t just clicked on the link to her page I highly recommend it! Not only is her story inspirational (which you can also read on her blog) but so are her concoctions. Have a looksys below and soak yourself some almonds tonight!!!

Homemade Vanilla Cinnamon Almond Milk

Yield: 3.5 cups

1 cup raw almonds, soaked in water
3.5 cups filtered water
2-4 pitted Medjool dates*, to taste (I used 2 large)
1 whole vanilla bean*, chopped (or 1/2-1 tsp vanilla extract) – I used vanilla extract!
1/4 tsp cinnamon
small pinch of fine grain sea salt, to enhance the flavour

1. Place almonds in a bowl and cover with water. It’s preferred to soak them overnight (for 8-12 hours) in the water, but you can get away with soaking for 1-2 hours in a pinch.
2. Rinse and drain the almonds and place into a blender along with filtered water, pitted dates, and chopped vanilla bean.
3. Blend on highest speed for 1 minute or so.
4. Place a nut milk bag over a large bowl and slowly pour the almond milk mixture into the bag. Gently squeeze the bottom of the bag to release the milk. This took me about 3-5 minutes to get all the milk out.
5. Rinse out blender and pour the milk back in. Add the cinnamon and pinch of sea salt and blend on low to combine.
6. Pour into a glass jar to store in the fridge for up to 3-5 days. Shake jar very well before using as the mixture separates when sitting. Enjoy with Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies for a real treat. This milk is also lovely with cereal.

Have a nutty ol’ time!!

Ohhh just feeling like a Princess or Beyonce-ish! Whatevs!

Last week Friday while at work, a coworker pulled out her curling wand to get ready for her Friday night.  Intrigued by this new little so called “curling wand” I had to watch how it worked.  You would think I would already be all over this, but I definitely was not!  I was shocked by how quick and different her curls were from the typical curling iron look.  They were tight and clean and just plain old perfect looking – with a dose of magic, just saying.  When she was all said and done, her hair looked like princess hair or some may even say Mermaid-ish.

Obviously next step was to YouTube some videos and watch this apparently well-known beauty trick! Where have I been?!?!  There are obviously thousands of different videos on techniques girls use to get different looks.  From the cutesy paatootesy curled look, to an ohh hayyyy I have sexy ma-nexy hair just tousled around to my all time favorite Beyoncé big luscious perm-ish hair look.  Done and done!

So on my way home I stopped at my local Walmart to grab this bad boy.  Yup you heard right Walmart, and the best part… it was… wait for it… $29.99!  I couldn’t believe it!  Naturally I went home and did my hair immediately, just because.  Luckily that day I was rockin’ some Lady Danger MAC lipstick, so by my end product of my curly sensation masterpiece I felt fabulousssss!  It took me approximately 45 minutes to do, probably because I’m a newbie but once I get the hang of it I reckon it will take half an hour or so.  I had absolutely no where to go, but you better believe I was flipping my hair and workin’ it in every corner of the house.  I had to take the selfies, so you would get the idea of the before and after.  Okay fine, I’ll admit it…. I took a lot of selfies that day, BUT why not?!?! Hahaha!

I was contemplating making a video tutorial, but instead I just attached a couple different techniques below for you to have a look at and get inspired.

Happy Monday!

I did Pot…tery!!!!

I have been thinking about that title all morning, and has made me laugh every time! Sad I know…

The other day, hubbalicious came across a cute little paint/art studio two minutes away from our house. He was actually going to the convenient store next store, but the bright colors in the window caught his attention. So we went for a stroll that afternoon, if you haven’t heard of this place you have to Google 4Cats Art Studio, I definitely recommend you find one close to you and have a looksys. Even if it’s just to get your artistic side ignited. Now it does seem to be aimed more towards children but there are some adult classes there as well. The day of our stroll we went exploring inside. The minute you walk in, it’s like a breath of fresh air for your mind. All the walls are covered with vibrant canvas’ from top to bottom. Some are done by children, teenagers and adults. There are paintings galore, clay pots everywhere, paper mache, sculptures and my favorite part the splatter room. (I think that’s what they call it) My heart skipped a beat when I saw this room!

Because my husband is so fabulous, before I could even ask what the next upcoming adult class was he was already on it. And before I knew it, I was signed up for Pottery 101. So yesterday I got to experience throwing, kneading, wetting, spinning and most importantly making a chunk or clay into what I would like to think a masterpiece. Now I won’t lie, I did get a little cocky and thought I was a pro and my bowl literally turned into an inverted lopsided plate, but the instructor came to my rescue and I was able to have round 2 and make the fancy little piece below.

I must say pottery is very relaxing. It is not as easy as they make it look in the romantic movies, there is a lot of pressure required with your hands, a lot of mapping out, thinking, sitting, standing but when you see what you are possible of doing… the entire experience is just beautiful. If you haven’t already, I totally recommend you give this a try. It’s such a good friends outing (rather then the boring old shopping, movies, etc), date night idea or simply a free your mind relaxing therapeutic all by your lonesome well needed date with yourself kinda activity. We also got to paint our creations at the end. I stuck with simple elegance. Black on the outside and off white in the inside. Unfortunately we don’t get to see our finished product for another two weeks, but you better believe I will be sharing the pictures immediately once I get the worlds greatest, sexiest small but perfect hand bowl!

Ahhhhh I feel amazing! What a great way to start the weekend. Who would’ve guessed that making a bowl would be so good for the soul! Yes I purposely rhymed that!

Happiness Drug = Sweets Sweetie Pie

Hello Friends!!!

Well well well… You will not believe what I’ve been up to. Ohhhh i’ve just been making delicious chocolate coconut macroons-ish AKA cacao coconut raw vegan bundles of joy! First of all its made of nothing but delicious healthy goodness, which makes it a scrumptious guilt free treat!

I know for me, whenever i’m done my meals i’m craving a sweet little something something to refresh myself. I noticed that I was usually going for the not so healthy options. Well ladies and gentlemen I found a quick, easy, yummy in your tummy recipe that will keep you satisfied. Ohhh baby!!!

– 3 tablespoons of cacao powder NOT cocoa powder (it is not the same thing!)
– 1/2 teaspoon of agave nectar
– 3/4 cups of unsweetened shredded coconut
– 1/2 cup on organic coconut oil

– Mix in a bowl.
– Dish onto a pan thats lined with parchment paper.
– Place in the fridge for 15-20 minutes.

Coconuts and coconut oil consumption reep so many benefits! Like regulating blood sugar, raising metabolic rates, contributing to weight loss, acts as an anti-inflammatory in the digestive tract, gives you a boost of energy and thats just to name a few!

And the cacao powder, ohh my goodness gracious! It is loaded with antioxidants flavonoids that promote cardiovascular health and protect us against toxins, its also a high source of magnesium, iron and vitamin C! And heres my favorite, cacao raises levels of serotonin in your body. That blissful feeling that acts like a happiness drug! COME ON!!!

Treat yourself to some sweetness sweetie pie!

I love you all dearly.

DIY Gold Maxi Skirt

I had seen this beautiful gold sequinsy fabric a month back while in Winnipeg and my heart fell in love. I knew instantly that I had to buy it, even though I had no clue what I was going to make with it.  Usually what happens, I buy something that toodles my fancy, put it in my room of inspiration and wait for a brilliant idea to come to me.  That happened today!  I love these days! 🙂

Today I attempted (successfully I may add) to make a Gold Maxi Skirt.  Honestly took me about 20 minutes to make with a sewing machine.  Would probably take about an hour if you are sewing by hand.  And to all the people without a sewing machine, this one is definitely dooable by hand.

So here’s what the finished product looks like.

Here we go!!!

Pick any fabric of your choice.  Preferably something stretchy, as it is way easier to work with.

Now this is the fun part, there are really no specific measurements for this sparkly number.  You can pick how much fabric you want to use. I personally preferred more as I was going for the bunchier look at the top.  Best part with doing that, no matter how your body may change, it will always fit.

The length of the material (top to bottom) will be the length on you. However much you choose will be the body of the skirt.

Flip the material inside out and pin at the edge you have just cut.

Sew along the pinned edge. WE ARE ALMOST DONE! ALREADY!!!!

Take an elastic band and while stretching a tad pull around your waist. Now add an extra 1/4 inch to that and cut.

Sew the edges together.

Pull over one end of the inside out material.

Turn the edge of the fabric over the elastic.  And if you find pinning helpful, pin away baby!  Pin around the elastic.  NOTE: Half way through you will be stretching the elastic, while pinning your fabric.

Sew around to secure the elastic in place. NOTE: Be sure not to sew on top of the elastic as it will not let allow you to have the bunching effect.

Date Night Mush!

I tend to have days of pure mushy-ness where I look at my hubby and realize how freakin’ lucky I am to have him.  The last couple of days have been full of ups and downs, with back to back fun with the Indian calendar full of special days of celebration and a bit of craziness on the other side. Life is definitely full of surprises, but I couldn’t be any happier than where I am right now. And yuppers, it all has to be with my amazing hubba hubba. He really makes everything “tickle me crazy” perfect!

While cleaning out a cabinet today I came across some memories from one of our first dates.  Now knowing him better than ever, i’m sure this wasn’t the funniest thing for him to do, but you would of never second guessed it that night. Over a couple glasses of wine, some music in the background, candles (ohhh la la) we painted our little hearts out on plates at home. Ceramic paint, to be exact. All you have to do is throw it in the oven when your done to set the paint and you can actually eat off of it after. We don’t, as they are our master pieces, but food for thoughts.

Below is my fancy art work. I didn’t share his, as i’m not too sure how much he would appreciate it.  All I can say is there was a theme, three words… Toronto Maple Leafs. Of course.

Looking for a fun date night with the girls or your significant other, head over to an arts store and grab some ceramic paint. It is so easy peasy to do. Blows movie watching night out of the water. Oh hayyy painters!

I have found yet another addiction, or as my hubby would say, “my new phase”!  Hopefully this is my last relapse…

I was loving the ombre look that I had going on, BUT it wasn’t the color I was originally aiming for. So I thought I would try one more time. The fact that it is sooo easy to do, just make it that much more funzy to try! Here’s the link from my original post, if you get tempted like me AGAIN!

And BADDA-BING BADDA-BOOM I got it! Now when I originally dried my hair once it was dyed, I had a minor heart attack. First thing I though, oh nelly my momma’s gonna kill me. But once I styled it a bit (doesn’t need too much, and I’m a big fan of the messy look) I was loving my little heart out.

One thing I would like to put out there though, obviously too much bleach is not fantastic for your hair so it’s important to give it some extra love and attention. Mothers tip: every night before I hit the sack I condition my ends with BioSilk – a weightless, leave-in silk replenishing and reconstructing treatment to repair, smooth and protect all hair types. <~ from the site!  I’ve noticed so far that it is working like a charm. My hair has life after two bleach sessions! The texture is a little oily, hence why I put it on at night. This way my teeny weeny hairs can soak up all the goodness and I don’t look like a walking oil ball all day long.

DIY Ombre – I finally did it!!!

I finally had the courage to do it and all it cost was $14.99 and 30 minutes of my time! The pictures don’t really catch the actual color but not to toot my own horn but ohhhh weee it looks good! TOOT TOOT! I’m still debating if I should go a bit lighter, but think i’ll ride this wave for a bit, plus I think it may get lighter over time.

Here’s what I did:
1) Buy any ol’ bleech, prepare and part your hair in half like below.
2) Start by placing bleech at the bottom 2 inches of your tips and patiently wait.
3) Once you see the color changing add some more bleech above the original and massage in.
4) Keep on working your way up until you have your desired look.
5) Wash and dry.
6) Feel fabulous!

NOTE: Once everything is washed out of your hair, it may look as though it didn’t work BUT don’t be fooled. Dry your mane and oh nelly you will see what fabulousness you’ve created!

Uhhh Waaa! Have fun!
